Activities

Ta’ Ġinġel Farm is an Agriturismo, delivering a unique farm stay experience, as close as possible to its Maltese roots. A restaurant, a couple of accommodation rooms and an artisan shop and butcher are set on a family run working farm. Our team is on a mission to give locals and foreigners visits which are an adventure like no other on the island. Sustainability and authenticity are our main principles, and we extend them throughout our services. We fully cater for young children whilst offering no less of an experience for youngsters, adults and elders.

Besides the services provided by our restaurant, accommodation and farm shop, we offer a range of activities available to our clients, both locals and foreigners, making it possible for them to experience the true essence of Malta’s unique agriculture and natural environment. Some of these activities are catered for in-house at the The Farm, whilst the rest are in various location all over the Maltese island.

In-house activities at Ta’ Ġinġel Farm

At The Farm we are determined to show our clients the authentic ambiance of a Maltese farm, providing a recreational environment which highlights Malta’s agriculture. Children are encouraged to play, feed and interact with the animals and get involved in farm work, whilst adults are provided the opportunity to relax in the tranquil Maltese setting.

1) Sheep Rearing and Milking Presentation

Mark, The Farmer, has been rearing sheep on his father’s farm ever since he remembers. Once he took over The Farm from his father he quickly got into sharing his knowledge and expertise with children and adults alike. At Ta’ Ġinġel we provide presentations of approximately 45 minutes long which consist of a detailed explanation of how Mark cares for his sheep, milks them and produces the famous Maltese ġbejniet. Our clients are able to see Mark milk the sheep and watch him whilst he is preparing the cheese. The clients are then invited to try the milk, the variety of ġbejniet that he makes along with an array of traditional Maltese accompaniments’ such as Maltese bread, sundried tomatoes, rich tomato paste and water crackers. This activity is provided for children and adults of any age, small or large groups, any time of the year and in the morning or in the afternoon.

2) A Day With A Farmer

Another activity that we can provide on The Farm is “A Day With A Farmer”, for groups of 1 to 3 children between the ages of 6 and 12. In this activity the children, and their parents should they wish to, can join Mark on his daily duties on The Farm. They will start early in morning till around noon. These duties will include everything from feeding and cleaning the animals, watering and caring for the crops and preparing the actual cheeselets. This activity is designed to not only teach the children what caring for a farm entail but to also allow them to get their hands dirty and experience it first-hand. This activity can be offered throughout the year, given it is not too hot or too cold, to be outdoors for some time.

Sub-contracted activities at Ta’ Ġinġel Farm

1) Scuba-Diving

At Ta’ Ġinġel Farm we encourage our guests to go on the wonderful adventure that is scuba diving in the Maltese waters to discover the local wildlife. We do this in collaboration with Aquatica Diving Centre. These well-trained professionals offer the experiences of snorkelling, guided dives and free dives for both unexperienced and certified divers accordingly. Clients are also offered the opportunity to visit one of Malta’s unique underwater wrecks.

Weather permitting, the services are available all year round; each group must be a minimum of 2 persons and children as young as 10 years old can join. Individual attention is given, and the dive centre has more than 15 years’ experience. Dives take place all over the Maltese islands.

2) Apiculture Visits

The second activity that we promote with our guests is another special adventure highlighting Maltese agriculture. Guests are taken to Kulleġġ Marija Reġina in Wardija to view man-made bee hives where honey bees are reared and local honey is made. The activity is done in collaboration with “A Taste Of Wardija”, an organisation which besides making honey and rearing bees, also makes many other local products such as jams, olive oil and carob syrup. The bee colonies are taken care of by apiarist, Rodney. They currently have 3 hives which may be viewed without the need for suits, by groups of maximum 7 persons. The clients are given a presentation of all that apiculture in Malta involves, they will also be able to taste and purchase the products. This activity is also offered all year round, in the morning or in the evening, except in July, August and September when the bees are too aggressive.

3) Fishing Charters

Ta’ Ġinġel Farm can also offer its guests an opportunity to set out on the Maltese waters to experience a fishing trip with trained local fisherman. This activity is carried out together with Aquatica Sport Fishing who have two skippers running the trips. Firstly Chris, a well renowned skipper, provides not only a great sport-fishing experience but is extremely knowledgeable and will explain fishing and Malta’s underwater world in detail. Skipper Daryl is an all-round fisherman who has spent years on the sea, learning about numerous fishing techniques that can yield the best catch. Many different Maltese fishing techniques are used and the trips take place all over the Maltese islands, depending on the season and what fish the guests would like to catch. This activity is available all year round, weather permitting, to people of all ages, given that minors are accompanied by adults.

At Ta’ Ġinġel Farm, our intention is to provide a genuine and authentic experience in the most sustainable way possible. Malta has a lot to offer, and as an Agriturismo we want to make sure our guests can experience as much of Malta’s unique agriculture as possible, highlighting its natural attractions. We want our guests to enjoy their holiday whilst being one with nature, interacting with Malta’s experts of traditional trade, their animals and environment.
